Barstow Acres Children’s Center is staffed with highly qualified mental health professionals and advocates who are passionate about changing lives for the better. Utilizing their years of experience and expertise, our staff delivers research-based programs designed to promote the health and well-being of children, adults, and families.

Clinical Staff

  • Sonia Hinds

    Sonia Hinds, APRN, PMH-BC, RPT-S, Executive Director

    Sonia Hinds is a Registered Nurse-Psychotherapist and Registered Play Therapist Supervisor. She is retired from the Army Nurse Corps and served as a Commissioned Corps Office in the U.S. Public Health Service where she was detailed to Saint Elizabeths Hospital for 20 years. Ms. Hinds is the Founder and Executive Director of Barstow Acres, a 501c3 non-profit agency at-risk children and families. She is also the Founder and Director of Chesapeake Beach Professional Seminars. She received her undergraduate degree at Wagner College and graduate degree at Howard University. Ms. Hinds also holds a certificate from the Washington School of Psychiatry in child and adolescent psychotherapy.

  • LaShann Freeman

    LaShann Freeman, LCPC, RPT

    LaShann Freeman is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor and a Registered Play Therapist committed to helping children, adolescents, adults, and families build their inner confidence and resilience in a safe environment. Mrs. Freeman provides individual, group and family therapy to all ages for a wide range of social difficulties including but not limited to the effects of divorce, low self-esteem, tantrums, aggression, depression, anxiety, ADHD, past trauma, adjustments/transitions, and family conflict. She also provides guidance to parents as part of healing the family system. Mrs. Freeman specializes in Child-Centered Play Therapy, Person-Centered, Solution-Focused, and Parental Consultation as well as an integrative approach to assist clients develop confidence, discover their unique strengths and build healthy relationships. Mrs. Freeman has over 7 years’ experience in working with children, adolescents and families in an educational setting as a Special Education Teacher, in a residential facility as a counselor and in a therapeutic environment as a child psychotherapist. She is available to provide individual, group, and family therapy to all ages.
